The DASP application portal, step by step
Updated 2026-07-29 · Reviewed by Eric, Hello June founder
DASP isn't lodged through myGov. It has its own portal: applicant.tr.super.ato.gov.au. Yes, that's the real address. There's no login wall, you authenticate directly with your TFN and passport details, which matters if you've already lost access to your Australian phone number for myGov's SMS codes.
Before you open the portal
The portal only accepts your claim once two things are true: your temporary visa has expired or been cancelled, AND you've physically left Australia. It checks both against immigration records automatically, applying earlier just gets you an automatic rejection you'll need to resubmit later, no penalty, but no point trying early either.
- Have ready: your TFN, passport number, each super fund's name and member number, and a bank account (Australian, or overseas if the fund allows international transfer, most do).
- Open applicant.tr.super.ato.gov.au and authenticate with your TFN and passport details.
- Fill the form for each fund. If you have several funds you didn't consolidate before leaving, you lodge one application per fund, each pays out separately.
- Submit. The portal gives you a reference number, keep it, you'll want it if you need to follow up.
What happens after you submit
The ATO verifies your eligibility, typically 5-10 business days, then notifies your fund(s). Each fund pays on its own timeline, most within 28 days, some take longer. If you don't claim within 6 months of becoming eligible, the fund is required to transfer your balance to the ATO as "unclaimed super", it isn't lost, you can still claim it later through the same portal, just with an extra step.
FAQ
- Do I need a myGov account to apply for DASP?
- No, not for this step. The DASP application itself runs on a separate portal (applicant.tr.super.ato.gov.au) authenticated by TFN and passport. myGov is only useful earlier, to find and consolidate your super funds before you apply.
- I have super in 3 different funds, is one application enough?
- No, unless you consolidated them into one fund before leaving. Otherwise it's one DASP application per fund, and each fund processes and pays its own claim independently.
- What if I miss the 6-month window?
- Your balance transfers to the ATO as unclaimed super, it's still yours. You claim it the same way, just from the ATO directly instead of from the fund.
